Urology

Urology is a medical branch that examines and treats disorders of the male and female urinary systems, as well as diseases of the male reproductive system.

All disorders of the prostate gland, scrotum, penis, kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra, and testicular organs are diagnosed and treated in urology clinics.

Urologists operating in these units are physicians who have completed six years of medical school and five years of urology residency training after completing the state mandated duty as a general practitioner. Urologists perform surgical interventions on patients for diagnosis and treatment when necessary. Karadeniz Technical University Urology Department with its competent team;

OUROLOGY and STONE DISEASE

In our department, kidney, adrenal tumors, ureter, urethra, Retroperitoneal masses, testicular masses, nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy (for prostate cancer) and radical cystectomy (for bladder cancer) operations are frequently performed with open and laparoscopic methods.
After cystectomy, ileal conduit and neobladder procedures are performed in appropriate indications.

In some urological cancer cases, treatment is planned in coordination with medical oncology and radiotherapy departments.

When a multidisciplinary approach is required, a treatment plan is developed and implemented after discussion in councils attended by General Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Oncology, and Radiation Oncology departments.

ENDOUROLOGY and STONE DISEASES

In the Urology department of Karadeniz Technical University, endoscopic (closed system) surgeries are also applied in the treatment of urinary system stone disease. In addition to surgical treatment, lithotripsy (ESWL) method is used. The Urology department provides services in the endourological treatment of stone disease (ureteroscopy, percutaneous kidney stone surgery - PCNL, flexible ureteroscopy, Ultrathin Ureteroscopy, Mini-Percutaneous nephrolithotomy).

Additionally, endoscopic (closed system), open, and laparoscopic operations are also being used to treat bladder stones.

ANDROLOGY

Medical and surgical treatment of diseases such as erectile dysfunction, premature and late ejaculation, Peyronie's disease, congenital penile curvature (congenital penile curvature) as male sexual dysfunction, examination and treatment for male infertility conditions characterized as male infertility are planned and treated with unity of different branches.
Andrology also deals with the treatment of sexual dysfunctions in women, such as desire and arousal disorders, orgasmic disorders.

PEDIATRIC UROLOGY

Pediatric urology includes the treatment of hydrocele and cord cyst, undescended testicle, circumcision, testicular and scrotum emergencies (acute scrotum and testicular torsion) and hypospadias diseases. Surgical repair of hypospadias (congenital urinary exit hole lower than normal) is one of the fields of urology department. Hypospadias can be surgically corrected.
